Abstrakt

The article describes the history and present state of the Cambridge Structure Database of Organic and Organometallic Structures (CSD) and the related software. The reader finds not only references to CSD applications in chemistry and biochemistry and to user manuals but is also given a review of possibilities and the expected reliability in forecasting general trends from experimentally determined structures. Two special examples from the author’s laboratory are given, analysis of bond conjugation in sydnone derivatives and analysis of protein-polymer interactions. An information on accessibility and usage of the CSD in the Czech Republic is also given.
