Simple Determination of Bis(2-chloroethyl) Sulfide

Abstrakt

A sensitive method is described for the detection of chemical warfare agent yperite in water, soil, air, and on surfaces. The method is based on the reaction of yperite with the addition compound of 4-(p-nitrobenzyl)pyridine and magnesium perchlorate giving a colourless quaternary salt which becomes purple after previous treatment with an alkali.
