Demonstration experiments, as well as those performed by pupils, represent an integral part of our school's education process. The handling of chemicals by pupils between 15 and 18 years is covered by a few complementary legal regulations. This contribution brings an overview of valid general regulations for handling chemicals by underage pupils during practical and theoretical teaching at secondary schools and during subsequent activities. The core of the contribution lies in the tables of chemical substances which are allowed or forbidden. These tables give also examples of particular common substances used in school laboratories. The aim is to inform the chemical community, mainly the secondary school teachers and the organizers of free-time activities, and to provide them with an overview of chemical substances (un)suitable for school experiments.
