Abstract

This review summarises the basic principles of evaluating the safety of the deep geological repository and describes the considered safety and technical concept of the deep geological repository planned in the Czech Republic. This concept is compared with similar concepts planned abroad. The next part of the review focuses on the discussion of chemical processes affecting the safety of the deep geological repository, especially on the degradation of engineered barriers and chemical processes related to the migration of radionuclides into the environment.
