Abstract

Production of the second-generation biofuels based on the biomass that is not primarily intended for food production is discussed. Production economy, problems associated with logistics of raw material as well as technological aspects are presented. In a long-term perspective the second-generation biofuels are more suitable sources of energy than those of the first generation. Production of bioethanol and biobutanol from lignocellulose or diesel fuel by hydrogenation/hydrocracking of vegetable oils are envisaged in the Czech Republic after 2015.
